The Defiance County Humane Society’s newest venture is a Paws to Reflect garden near the shelter. The garden will feature a walkway, plants, flowers, shrubs and benches. To help finance this fundraising project, we will sell engraved bricks for the walkway. The regimental red bricks will come in 2 sizes: 4” x 8” engraved with 3 lines of copy, with 13 characters per line, and 8” x 8” engraved with 6 lines of copy, with 13 characters per line. Spaces and punctuation are both considered characters. Business logos or emblems can also be add to the bricks.
DCHS Adoption policy

Our adoption fees are the lowest in northwest Ohio.  The adoption fee of $85 for dogs and $65 for cats does not begin to cover the money invested in each animal.  Along with housing, feeding, utilities, and staffing, each animal is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas, if necessary.  Additional attention is given to ear and nail care.  The dogs are tested for heartworm, put on heartworm preventative and vaccinated for kennel cough.  The cats are tested for feline leukemia.  The shelter’s goal is to maintain the high standards of health care and to send the animals on to their new life with a healthy start.

We feel that all people would do very well with a senior pet but senior
people seem to really have the love and compassion to reach out to
one of these homeless pets and love them.  Senior people are gentle
and loving and understand the need to welcome a senior pet.  And,
older pets have so much to offer.  In most cases, they are house-
broken, have a good temperament and are very grateful to be rescued.
They just want to love and please someone.  It has also been proven
that adopting a pet to a senior person dramatically improves the
equality of life for both of them            ---------------------------

By having two or more cats, you are able to enjoy the true social nature of cats and their relationship with each other.

Cats that have a playmate tend to be more socially well-adjusted and avoid behavior problems.

Cats need stimulation during the day like humans.

They are less likely to ruin furniture out of boredom

If you must work long hours or travel for a couple of days, two or more cats keep each other company and are more tranquil during your absence.

Your cat will remain more playful and youthful into his or her later years with a companion.

The workload to care for two cats remains relatively the same

You don't need more space for a second cat!
