Abandoning animals is against the law:

Remember, it is not only cruel to abandon animals, it is against the law.  And, there is no need to do such a thing.  That's the reason we are there, because no one likes to feel unwanted.  If you see anyone dumping animals, please try to get their license number an contact the Humane Society, dog warden or Sheriff's department.

I just wanted to write and give you an update on Helena!  Gracie, previously Helena, is doing great!  She has really adjusted to her new home and we just love her to pieces!  She is very playful and loving all at the same time!  She has decided our 4 year old lab is her friend instead of her enemy and they are getting along great!  Thank you, Heather Roehrig

Consider an Older Pet

Generally people are looking for that cute little puppy when they are looking to adopt a new family member.  Unfortunately, there are also older pets looking for homes too.  These older beautiful animals are all too often overlooked or not even considered when a family comes to the shelter.  We would like to ask you to take a few extra moments and consider adopting an older pet.  We realize that a kitten or a puppy may be the perfect addition to your family but remember, he won't stay a little kitten or puppy forever.  Just this week we received another dog at the shelter because he got too big.  Often times, an older pet would be equally suitable or better suited to your lifestyle and expectations.

Economy Hurting Animal Shelters

There have been increased animals brought to the shelter because owners can no longer afford to take care of their pets or have lost their jobs and/or homes and must move to another location and can not afford to take their pets with them.  Fewer donations of money and food are also reported.

Owning a pet, or two or three, can become an expensive proposition. The American Pet Products Manufacturers Association estimates that it costs $241 a year to feed a dog and $185 a year to feed a cat.
